How to Measure Distance, Area & Perimeter in a PDF
The SwiftPDFLab Editor includes a measurement tool for measuring distance, area and perimeter directly on a PDF page — handy for floor plans, engineering drawings, maps and diagrams. Like everything in SwiftPDFLab, measuring runs client-side in your browser, so your file is never uploaded.
Step 1: Open Your PDF
Go to editor.swiftpdflab.com and open the PDF you want to measure.
Step 2: Choose the Measure Tool
Select Measure from the toolbar, then pick a mode: Distance for a straight line between two points, Area for the space inside a closed shape, or Perimeter for the total length around a shape.
Step 3: Place Your Points
Click to drop measurement points on the page. Distance updates live as you click; for area and perimeter, keep adding points and finish the shape to see the result.
Step 4: Keep or Remove the Markup
Measurements appear as annotations. You can leave them on the page for reviewers, or delete them once you have noted the values.
Step 5: Download
Click Download to save the PDF. Use Flatten first if you want any measurement markup baked permanently into the page.
Pro Tip
For real-world accuracy, calibrate against a known dimension when a scale option is available — for example, a printed scale bar or a wall of known length — so on-screen measurements map to true units.
